OVERVIEW

 

COMMONWEALTH COURT OF CONCILIATION AND ARBITRATION 1904-1956

This Court was replaced by two separate bodies. The Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Commission (see below) was established to conciliate and arbitrate industrial disputes and the Commonwealth Industrial Court to interpret and enforce decisions of the Commission.

COMMONWEALTH INDUSTRIAL COURT 1956-1973

This became the Australian Industrial Court in 1973.

AUSTRALIAN INDUSTRIAL COURT 1973-1977

The jurisdiction in industrial relations was transferred to the Federal Court of Australia in 1977.

FEDERAL COURT OF AUSTRALIA, INDUSTRIAL DIVISION 1977-1993

INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS COURT 1993-1996

In 1993 the jurisdiction in industrial relations of the Federal Court of Australia was transferred to the Industrial Relations Court of Australia. It was transferred back to the Federal Court of Australia in 1996.

COMMISSIONS

COMMONWEALTH CONCILIATION AND ARBITRATION COMMISSION 1956-1988

The Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Commission was established to conciliate and arbitrate industrial disputes in 1956.

AUSTRALIAN INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS COMMISSION 1988-2009

In 1988 the Australian Industrial Relations Commission replaced the Conciliation and Arbitration Commission.

FAIR WORK COMMISSION 2013-PRESENT
