The registration of masseurs began in Victoria in 1922. Unregistered people were prevented from practising massage from this time. A register of registered masseurs appeared in January 1924 in the Victorian Government Gazette and lists of registered masseurs appeared annually in January in the Victorian Government Gazette from this time; these were either a full register or a supplementary list. Legally masseurs were relabelled physiotherapists in 1978. See Victorian Government Gazettes.
