Victorian Genealogy

Finding People and Places in Victoria, Australia.

How to Get Started:

I am new to genealogy and would like to know where to get started in Victoria?

On our website you will find many links to great sites for beginners. Also, just as important, you should post a query on a query board, join an email list and ask questions about your ancestors there. It has been my experience that the more places you ask the question, the better your chances of getting an answer.

Basic Questions

I don't see XXX church or cemetery on your list.

If you do not see additional information, that information has not been posted.

Specific People:

I am looking for information about XXX.

Unfortunately, if you don't see it on the site then I don't have any information about it.

Can you send me a marriage certificate (or birth certificate, death certificate) for my ancestor?

No, I'm sorry, but I do not have access to these records. In most cases, you will need to check with the Victorian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages in order to obtain original documents. You can find contact information under Birth, Death and Marriage Registries.

Can you look some information up for me?

See Research Queries.
